Handmade Tarot Deck by Luli Cereseto

“The Tarot is a system of revealing the unconscious and energetic processes of the human psyche. To understand it we must think in a symbolic, dream-imaging way rather than in a rational, linear way.” –The Spirit of Herbs

TAROT DECK

Paving a path for the seeker

Hello there! I’m very close to birthing a year-long project: a handmade tarot deck made with love, soul, cut paper and pressed leaves. In the meantime, I invite you to discover some of the cards and their meanings, as well as the story behind the origin of this project.

“The tarot is a system of revealing the unconscious and energetic processes of the human psyche. To understand it, we must think in a symbolic, dream-imaging way rather than in a rational, linear way. The tarot helps us go beyond the chaos of life and see the greater truths that lie within ourselves.” – THE SPIRIT OF HERBS

origins and inspirations

For me, learning tarot was about reconnecting with a distant, almost subconscious childhood curiosity that was never satiated. The making of this deck served as a clear-cut and gentle process born out of the partial loss of my inner child and the battles I was fighting.

The initial motivation to create this deck was to become familiar with the cards in the comfort of my solitude, through the use of my hands.

The imagery and interpretation of these cards are based on my personal interactions with the tarot, the healing teachings of Lindsay Mack, and the illustrations by Pamela Colman Smith for the Rider-Waite deck.

The figures in Yellow Tarot are meant to be free of gender, race, and socio-cultural contexts.

journal

I wanted a space to take note of my thoughts throughout this process, so I put together a journal of sorts, keeping track of both my tarot interpretations and the creative considerations for each card. A journal entry accompanies each description, appearing in the order in which I pulled them as the making of the deck progressed. The sequence tells the story of a fragment of my life.

for the reader

My hope in sharing this deck with others is that the imagery and energy of these cards serve as a reminder that whether we are in the light or in the dark, there is always a path for the seeker.

KING OF PENTACLES

method

Throughout the course of a year, I aimed to stay deeply immersed in the making of each card, designing and assembling the pieces with patience, intention, and care.

The creative evolution of this deck reflects my experience of learning to interpret the tarot - a process that intertwined nature, intuition, and spirituality. Honoring those aspects in the design process led to hand-cutting the elements for each card, and incorporating some special tools and materials along the way. Namely, a pair of faithfully smooth golden scissors that I adore, as well as some hand-picked pressed leaves from an extraordinary place I visited in Georgia.
